Henrik Sande (1968) grew up in Trondheim, Norway.

He had early violin lessons and sang in the cathedral’s boys choir.

He moved to Austria and studied composition at the University of Music in Graz with Gerd Kühr and Beat Furrer.

There he received the city’s music prize in 1999.

He worked as a freelance musician and composer and was performed in several festivals for contemporary music including „Hamburger Begegnung“ and „Wien modern“.

In 2003 he composed the large work „1200 Tänze“ for piccolo flute and double bass on the occasion of the „European Capital of Culture Graz“.

He worked as a musician in the Group „Kernölamazonen“ and had numerous projects with „Theater Asou“ and „Theater Feuerblau“ as well as regular projects with the pianist Eva Bajic.

He led the Sinatra group „The Swinging Rats“ with the singer Helmuth Kastner and was for ten years teacher at the „Musical Academy Graz“ under the direction of Christian Schmidt.

He was an active member of V:NM Austria.

He composed two children musicals with Michaela Riedl (Kerni Kürbis Abenteuer) and Andrea Stift (polar bear and penguin) respectively.

He had many projects with the Latvian conductor and organ-player Ilze Kroja.

In 2017, he composed the chamber opera „Remember Rembrandt“ for Kunstgarten Graz with the author Ruud van Werdeburg.

He was the leader of „Kunstgartenchor“ and made several projects in Kunstgarten with Irmi and Reinfrid Horn.

In 2023, he composed the opera „a waiting“ for the festival „La Strada“, Graz, in collaboration with the author Albert Pall.

He is planning the cabaret „The Masochistentruppe“ (The Masochist Group) in cooperation with Marinos Kurda.

As a clown, Henrik Sande bears the name „Henni Po Penni“.
